Welcome to 1st Place....
I don't know which was more surprising, the Bulls win without DRose having to score 35+ points, Bogans scoring 17, or the White Mamba making an appearance with 2 minutes left.....in the 1st quarter. Thibs probably wanted to give him an early St. Patty's gift. In the end, the Bulls role players/bench stepped up by filling in the holes on offense and stepping up their D in the 2nd half. Even though the Wiz didn't have a few of their key players (Lewis, Young, Blatche), the Bulls had their hands full in the 1st half trying to stop Jordan Crawford (wish he stayed at IU). Jo-Craw put up 21 in the 1st, but was held to 6 in the 2nd thanks to Bogans. McGee had a good game, putting up an unconventional triple-double (11pts, 12rebs, 12blks) and J.Wall put up 17-11-7 (and 7 turnovers, oops). The Bulls had great ball movement and 24 assists as the Wiz decided to sit in a 2-3 zone for a majority of the game. Someone should have told Flip Saunders that this wasn't the NIT.
Now that we are officially have a 0.5 game lead over the Celts for 1st, the Bulls need to see if they can stay there. Some of the national pundits are still debating if the Bulls are deserving of the #1 spot or if they should have "elite" status. Their argument being the Celtics are dealing with injuries and the Heatles have more talent. First of all, let's not talk about injuries without talking about the Bulls. Joakim and Boozer have played in 25 games together. We might be 4 games in 1st if they didn't miss as many games. Heatles may have talent, but they don't have a team. They have 2 superstars who are still trying to figure out how to coexist and RuPaul. Not to mention they have the best record against teams with a .500 record or better (21-9). Fuck it, this team plays better with a chip on their shoulder anyway. Hopefully the media keeps fueling this fire. Bulls are @NJ and @Indy for a back-to-back. Gotta keep it rolling....
In other related and obscure news, Mustafa Shakur is on the Wiz. You could have told me he was either dead or playing for the Washington Generals and that would have been more believable. I was hoping the Wiz would throw out Salim Stoudamire to complete the Arizona Wildcat backcourt reunion.
