halleluiajah!!! its a raining injuries in the NL central

The calendar just hit March and the 3 best pitchers in the NL Central are already nursing injuries. While some injuries are worse than others, these things always have a way of creeping up on pitchers throughout a season.  Adam Wainwright is already done for the season and while I would never wish injuries upon a player, no one can say that this does not set the Cardinals back, and I would venture to say it costs them 6-8 wins.  Wainwright has a W-L record of 50-22 over the past 3 seasons, and an ERA around 2.75 over that period of time.  Throw out Halladay, and Wainwright is the best pitcher in the NL, maybe the whole league.  While we have known for a week or so about that injury, new injuries have come to light today.  St. Louis' other ace Chris Carpenter went down with a hamstring injury today and as someone who has experienced a pulled hammy, even though it was in high school and I never stretched, it never ends. It simply never ends with a hamstring.  Carpenter had to be carried off the field and left the park with his leg wrapped up in ice.  That will be a common sight for Cardinals fans this year unfortunately.  And then there's Zack Greinke. It took Zack 40 pitches to get through 4 outs against the White Sox today and it wasn't because the Sox were patient. Greinke was battling a bruised right side suffered off the field. He also won't say how it occurred. Wierd. While I think Greinke is a good pickup for the Brewers, I also don't think he is all that great.  He is 26-22 over the past 2 seasons.  2 years ago he had an ERA of 2.16 and last year he was back to 4.20.  In Greinke's defense, he did not have a whole lot to work with in Kansas City.  But it is important to note that Greinke is also a registered headcase.  A year before his breakout season, Greinke considered becoming an OF because he hated pitching so much. He was forced to see a team psychologist and examine his problems. And while it does appear that he has moved on from that, ya never know.  Once someone enters crazy town like our buddy Zack and stays for awhile, sometimes they never really leave. They just go on hiatus.  For the Cubs sake, lets hope he relapses into being bad and crazy.
