Game of the Day: UConn v. Pitt : Now I know I have heard this countless times on TV, but apparently with less than 10 seconds, Jamie Dixon doesn't have his players switch on screens with less than 10 seconds. Well if that is the case, he may want to make an exception when it comes to having a 6'11 center guarding Kemba Walker who is arguably the best point guard in the nation. If he is not the best, he is definitely the quickest. Gary McGhee will be on every Big East Tourney highlight reel now as being the guy who got his ankles busted. Kemba Walker is legit and in my opinion he is probably the most pro ready guard in the country. I know he does not pop up in the lottery in too many mock drafts but he should be a top 10 pick.....STep Back...filthy
ND v Cincinatti : Okay, I know I had previously written about how weak college hoops is this year, and I used Ben Hansbrough being one of the top candidates for player of the year as a reason, but the kid truly does get how to play the game. He is all over the court and runs around floor like Reggie Miller used to. I'm not saying he is even close to Reggie Miller good, but his style of play does resemble Miller. He never stops using screens and is tenacious on defense. Notre Dame was dominant yesterday against a pretty good Cincy team who will be in the tournament. Notre Dame dismantled them and I believe win or lose in their next game deserves a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. ND had 4 guys in double figures and 3 of those players had 17 or more. They play extremely good defense and with a leader like Hansbrough leading the way this team could be extremely dangerous pending on their draw in the tournament.
IU v Penn State : Well, Indiana's season came to an end yesterday and their performance was very typical of every game they played this season. They were right there but could not get over the hump in the second half. Victor Oladipo played a great game, but he needs to hit his FTs. The kid could is explosive and if he actually learns how to play basketball he could be a star in the Big Ten. Jordy Hulls was also fantastic and continues to show that he can make big shots and I am looking forward to seeing him progress next year. But Penn State, who I said was my sleeper pick to win this tournament, proved to be too much. This is Penn State's last chance to be a real player for the next few years. There 3 best players are all seniors in Battle, Brooks, and Jones, and those 3 players were the difference in the game. Where Verdell Jones missed 2 wide open 3's in the final 4 minutes, Battle hits those shots and that was the difference. IU did a good job on Battle for the most part, but he just does not miss wide open shots. Look for Penn State to beat Wisconsin today. Penn State matches up pretty well with Wisconsin and I think it should be an extremely interesting game.
Michigan State v Iowa: MSU needed a 14-2 run to close this game out otherwise Iowa would have beaten MSU for a second time this season. Iowa seems to moving in the right direction. They had a pretty similar year to IU, but had a few better wins. Michigan State probably solidified their NCAA tourney bid yesterday with that win, but are still right on that bubble. They are still a dangerous team and it would not surprise me if Izzo was able to rally the troops and get these kids to a sweet 16 this year or maybe even further. With Draymond Green and Kalin Lucas leading the way, MSU can be the type of team that does not live up to the preseason rankings but is able to put it together for a run in the dance.
Cuse v Johnnies : Yea I know the Greek just missed on this one, but in his defense, the Johnnies lost their best player in the game and that injury could be a huge detriment to the rest of St. John's season. Syracuse finally got a performance from Fab Melo and they looked pretty damn good for most of the game.
Minnesota v Northwestern : Mbakwe is a scary man. Juice Williams just too much. Kid was on fire. Boring game.
Louisville v Marquette : Louisville has a different guy step up every game and thats all there really is to say about that game.
